Montessori & ECCE Scheme

We participate in the Early Childhood Care and Education scheme. The ECCE programme is designed to give children access to a pre-school year of programme-based activities in the year before they start primary school.

Participation in a pre-school programme provides children with their first formal experience of early learning, the starting-point of their educational and social development outside the home. Our service is committed to the Montessori Method. Our Montessori curriculum is centred around the national framework for early years education and care and we adhere to the principles outline in Síolta and Aistear.

This service is committed to developing an Aistear curriculum that creates a child centred, play based environment which empowers young children to actively pursue their own learning. This process will be facilitated by staff who will provide enthusiastic approach, support, and progression to encourage positive attitudes towards learning. Children are encouraged to be independent, to care & respect for themselves & to respect others for their own individuality. We strive to provide a programme of activities which encourage the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, creative and language development and of the children who attend the service.

Activities also included in the preschool year are; Science experiments, monthly projects, arts & craft, fun & messy play, gardening, baking, song & dance and plenty of outdoor play. The Scheme is run from September to June. The hours for ECCE are 9:15am to 12:15pm, 5 days per week, for 38 weeks, additional hours may be availed of on request. Children in full-time/part-time childcare who are eligible for the ECCE pre-school year will receive the ECCE grant.
